The Willow River Industrial Technology students participated in the TEEMS (Technology Engineering Environment Mathematics and Science) Challenge at St. Cloud State University on April 24, 2012. The challenge consisted of 6 events, with over one hundred students participating. The events were: Trebuchet Competition, Bridge Building, Catapult Building, Wind Turbine Building, Paper Glider Competition Launches, and Tower Building. Willow River students brought home 5 First and Second Place trophies. Students brought home 1st and 2nd in Bridge Building, 1st in Tower Building, 2nd in Trebuchet Launch, and 2nd in the Paper Glider. The students who participated were Drew, Dylan, Cody, Brady, Vic, Samantha, Ashlee, Reed, Nathan, Kenny, Jon, Wade, Tyler and Ray.

President Obama announced that Minnesota is one of 10 states to granted a waiver from the federal No Child Left Behind Law.

Under this waiver, Minnesota has the opportunity to transition to an accountability system that works for us. With this new system, we will move beyond AYP to look at multiple measures of school performance. We will move towards a system that identifies a more limited group of schools most in need of strategic support and assistance, and identifying the highest-performing schools across the state in order to learn from them. The two attachments will summarize and explain this.
